SUMMARY:"Political Negotiation Theory and Practice" Virtual Course
DESCRIPTION:Virtual Training Course\nPOLITICAL NEGOTIATION THEORY AND PRACTICE\nStyles\, Skills\, and Techniques \n26th – 29th September 2022\n  \nThis course will cover negotiation theories and practices in addressing conflicts\, with a special focus on new trends and actors in international affairs. Both interest–based and value–based conflicts will be addressed through the lens of cross–culture negotiations and identity issues. Developing negotiation skills will be our primary goal\, hence simulation and roleplay exercises based on real case scenarios will comprise more than fifty percent of the content. \nLearning Objectives  \nBy the end of the course\, participants will be able to: \n\nApply a range of skills\, techniques and good practices in negotiation;\nFrame the problem (positions) and prioritize list of issues (interests and needs) for negotiation;\nDetermine a minimally acceptable deal\, i.e. the “walk away point” or BATNA (Best Alternative To a Negotiated Agreement)\, and anticipate the bottom line (BATNA) of the other side\nDetermine a bargaining range\, i.e. Zone of Possible Agreement (ZOPA)\nDesign and run the negotiation process;\nDevelop negotiation strategy to create political leverage;\nIdentify personal strengths and weaknesses as negotiators;\nDeal with moral\, legal and political dilemmas which may arise in negotiation\nIdentify risks and opportunities of information and communication technologies in negotiation;\n\n  \nThe course is designed for mid to senior level staff in peacekeeping and political missions of the UN and regional organizations (AU\, OSCE\, etc.)\, diplomats\, those working in governments and non–governmental organizations and academic institutions. \nThe participants will learn from senior experts and practitioners in the field\, and the activities are devised to be highly interactive through discussions\, Q&A sessions\, group work\, role-play and hands-on exercises and assignments. \nThe courses will be conducted virtually via the Zoom software. \nDownload the course program and more details about the course HERE \nRegistration is open until 23rd September  2022 and can be done HERE. \nCOURSE FEE: 900 EUR (1\,150 USD) \nConflux Center is organizing a complemental course “Negotiating with Non-state Armed Groups” on the 6th October 2022. \nThe fee for this course is 450 EUR (550 USD).  \n  \nThe fee for both courses is 1\,200 EUR (1\,400 USD) \nConflux Center alumni are eligible for 20% discount. \nPartial subsidy could be available at a later stage.
